The FBI's 2025 Internet Crime Report counts 24,768 business email compromise complaints with $3.05 billion in losses, more than 22,000 complaints reporting AI related information with adjusted losses above $893 million, over $30 million in business losses to BEC scams involving AI, and Florida third in the nation at 71,843 complaints.

How much did AI related fraud cost in 2025?
The FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center received 22,364 complaints reporting AI related information in 2025, with adjusted losses of $893,346,472. The report describes the pattern plainly: AI lets criminals produce convincing synthetic content, from personalized emails and fake profiles to cloned voices and faces, in mass quantities, and that content is getting harder to detect. The AI figure is a descriptor the FBI applies across crime types, so it sits inside the larger totals for business email compromise, investment fraud, and the rest rather than beside them.

How many business email compromise complaints were there?
24,768 business email compromise complaints in 2025, up from 21,442 in 2024 and 21,489 in 2023. Reported BEC losses were $3,046,598,558 in 2025, against $2,770,151,146 in 2024 and $2,946,830,270 in 2023. Businesses reported losses of more than $30 million in 2025 to BEC scams that involved AI, which the FBI describes as chat generators writing official sounding emails in a chief executive's voice and cloned voices requesting wire payments. Cryptocurrency was the largest transaction type across all 2025 fraud losses at $11,366,669,732.

Which states lead?
By number of complaints in 2025: California 116,414, Texas 97,912, Florida 71,843, New York 45,255, Illinois 32,977, and Pennsylvania 31,154. Florida is third in the nation. For a Florida business the practical reading is that the state's volume is high enough that banks, insurers, and the FBI see these cases every day, which helps when a complaint is filed quickly and completely.

What did voice cloning and deepfakes add?
The FBI's 2025 report lists the AI schemes it saw by crime type. Business email compromise: more than $30 million in business losses to BEC involving AI, including voice cloning used to request wire payments. Confidence and romance scams: more than $19 million lost to scams with a likely AI nexus, and more than $5 million to distress scams in which a cloned voice imitates a loved one in trouble. Employment scams: almost $13 million lost to AI involved schemes, including voice spoofing and possible video deepfakes during online interviews. Investment scams: AI generated videos and voices of celebrities, executives, and trusted figures used to sell fraudulent opportunities. Separately, the FBI's Recovery Asset Team opened 3,900 Financial Fraud Kill Chain incidents in 2025 against $1,163,919,846 in attempted theft and froze $679,013,183, a 58 percent success rate.
